The Drawing Comes First
A plan does two things. It shows you what you’re buying — where the patio actually sits, how wide the path really is, what the beds look like against the house. And it heads off the expensive kind of mistake, the one where a wall goes in and then has to come back out because nobody worked out where the water goes.
If you want to see it in more depth, we can produce 3D visuals of the finished design for an additional cost. Most people find the plan drawing is enough to make decisions from.
What a Project Includes
A design and build project is the whole yard rather than one element of it, and it can take in any of the following:
- Hardscape — patios, retaining walls, walkways and steps
- Planting — beds, shrubs, trees, bed shaping and mulch
- Lawn — grading and establishing turf from seed or sod
- Features — landscape lighting, water features and fire features
Because it’s planned as one thing, the pieces get sized against each other. The patio is scaled to the house, the beds are scaled to the patio, and the lighting is planned while there’s still an open trench to run it through — rather than added afterwards at twice the trouble.
All at Once, or a Piece at a Time
Not everyone wants to do the whole yard in one go, and there’s no reason to. We can design the full plan and then build it in stages as it suits you.
The value of planning the whole thing up front is that the early stages don’t get in the way of the later ones. Grade for the patio you’re building next year and you won’t be digging up this year’s lawn to reach it.

Design and build only works if whoever drew it can also build it. We do the excavation and grading, the drainage, the concrete, the retaining walls, the lighting and the planting.
